When you get a breather, can you explain the CAG, if it has become an increasing source of these devastating storms, and why. I once thought our tropical storms and hurricanes started on the west coast of Africa and worked their way west.

Any insight as to what caused the jog to the east right before landfall? After the jog it resumed its NNE track. That jog may have been the unfortunate issue leading to devastating E Tennessee and Western North Carolina.

I need to do more research into this, but my sense is that the intensification trend into the evening slightly shifted the effective steering layer moving the storm to something a bit more eastward. There was definitely a change in heading of ~10 degrees or so from ~15 degrees to more like 25 degrees in the late afternoon. Further study needed.
