As always, very good update!

With regards to hurricane development in the Western Caribbean region, what months are more prone to this activity? The way Idalia popped into existence scared the pants off me.

Development in the western Caribbean is most common at the beginning and end of the hurricane season, so basically late May-June and October-early November. The Caribbean is never totally devoid of development chances, but usually it is triggered by tropical waves during the peak months of the season. The Central American Gyre mechanism that triggered Idalia is much more common in October and very, very unusual in August.
