Hi. Live in Punta Gorda. Evacuating tomorrow. Can you please address the actual definition of storm surge level? Everything I look at at from NHC references storm surge above mean sea level but then other graphics refer to feet above ground level. Clarification please. Thanks
Thank you, thank you…a million times…thank you. God bless you for providing such excellent reports, as usual. Over here in Martin we’re going just a little bit crazy because of the unknown factor. I’m putting up the shutters; I don’t trust this thing.
I remember Wilma well- 6 wks w/ out power!! What fun but no storm damage - so thankful… Wilma was right before Halloween & Miami got a cold snap after Wilma passed…
I just checked Google maps and there might be some signs of people evacuating. If I lived in Tampa Bay, I would take route 98 to Tallahassee; the interstates will be parking lots. An alternative would be alligator alley to Miami.
I've seen the traffic is kicking off. Good to see evacuation orders being heeded. Also recommend the 98/Coastal Highway. Will also give you a good view of Cat 4 damage and validate your decision.

Details of NHC surge modeling are here: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/surge/inundation/

Prudent. Probably strongish TS gusts for you.
Keeping Florida in sincere prayers…
Thank you - Ryan for sharing your expertise!

What can the east coast of fl expect? Specifically Sebastian:Vero region. Still a hurricane? Cat? Thanks.
TS force gusts most likely. Probably offshore winds so limited surge.
NOAA Hurricane Center is down?
Thank you for the updates. Where do you obtain that wind radii product from? I’ve only seen that output for storms covered by the JTWC.
It's from the Naval Research Lab.
Ah, thank you. I found it.
